This national center for electroacoustic music and sound art provides studios and training for both Swedish and international artists and guest composers.

Music and Theatre Library of Sweden

This is Sweden's specialized library for music, theater, and dance. It offers downloadable sheet music, play scripts, literature, and unique archival material dating back to the 1100s.

The Swedish Museum of Performing Arts

This national museum for music, theater, and dance allows visitors to experience art up close, meet the artists, and learn about the craftsmanship behind the scenes. The museum's extensive collection has been built over more than 100 years.

Svenskt visarkiv logotyp

Svenskt visarkiv – Centre for Swedish Folk Music and Jazz Research

This archive preserves, collects, research, and shares Sweden's cultural heritage in folk music, ballads, older popular music, jazz, and traditional dance. Svenskt visarkiv is open to everyone.

Governance of Statens musikverk

Statens musikverk is led by a Director General appointed by the government. The Director General is supported by a management team and an advisory council.

Advisory Council

The advisory council’s role is to contribute knowledge and expertise and to advise the agency’s leadership. It also ensures democratic oversight and citizen influence. Members are appointed by the government and typically meet four times a year.

Government Regulation and Instructions

Statens musikverk is part of the Ministry of Culture. The agency’s overarching tasks and responsibilities are outlined in a government regulation and instruction document (in Swedish).

Regulation Letter

At the end of each year, the agency receives a regulation letter from the government, which includes goals, performance requirements, and the agency’s budget for the upcoming year (in Swedish).

History

Statens musikverk was founded in 2011. From 2011 to 2021, the agency distributed grants to the independent Swedish music scene through the department Musikplattformen. For information on grants for music, please refer to the Swedish Arts Council.
